Exploration Camp offers younger campers a traditional camp
experience with emphasis on teamwork, outdoor awareness, and
fun. Exploration campers can expect to make friends while
canoeing, inner tubing, hiking, swimming, and solving cooperative
challenges. This program includes one or two nights of cooking
and camping out and is a week of risk and new experiences. |

and camp out for 2-3 nights in a Home In the Woods
they build near camp. |
Intro to Sports
(Ages 8 – 10)
Many of our younger campers are intimidated by organized athletics
and pick-up games. Intro to sports offers the chance to learn
rules and practice skills in a non-competitive, fun environment.
We will focus on the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork
through a variety of sports, which may include basketball,
football, tennis, golf, baseball, soccer, and leisure games. |
Science Camp (Ages 8 – 10)
Science Camp was created to encourage kids to learn about
nature and their environment through fun, hands-on activities.
In addition to science exploration activities in and around
camp, campers may have the opportunity to travel to COSI in
Columbus or the Museum of Natural History in Cleveland.
Advanced Science Camp (Ages 10 – 12)
Advanced Science Camp is an expansion of Science Camp, offering similar activities and focusing on science and nature. Advanced Science campers might explore COSI and a natural history museum. |
Discovery Camp

The week will take campers through a progression of experiential
learning activities. Campers will learn how to use maps, compasses,
and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). They may build a geodesic
dome that supports over 1,000 lbs and fly a model hot air
balloon made with a trash bag. Other activities may include
stream study, candle making, and shelter building. |

Sport Skills Camp
(Ages 11 – 15)
Sports Skills goes beyond “Intro to Sports”, focusing
on concepts and strategy, as well as rules and skill development.

and training is the goal of Sports Skills camp. In addition
to popular sports such as soccer, baseball, and basketball,
Sports Skills campers may have the opportunity to bowl, play
miniature golf, use batting cages, and swim. |

themselves in nature through sensory activities, developing
a greater awareness of themselves and their connection with
the environment. Activities may include a swamp hike, mud
baths, night hikes, and various nature activities. A week
of ACC Camp culminates with a Muir Trek, an all-day hike from
dawn to dusk, full of nature adventures and contemplation. |
Rails to Trails
(Ages 12 – 15)
Across the nation, old railways are being converted to multi-purpose
bike trails. These trails offer a scenic and historic journey
through Ohio while providing even, safe terrain. Campers must
know how to ride a bike and be prepared to travel 10-30 miles
per day. Nuhop will provide all necessary equipment and teach
basic maintenance. |
Artistic Ventures
(Ages 14 – 17)
Visual, performing, and fine arts are areas that provide opportunities
for our campers and in which many excel. Artistic Camp will
alternate each year from one to another concentration.
Professionals will enhance each week with their skills and
knowledge while campers not only get a chance to practice
and create, but to travel around Ohio to museums, exhibits,
and performances. |

of Ohio’s Lake Erie shore and close islands, campers
will explore Kelly’s Island’s glacial grooves
and Put-in-Bay’s geode caves. Other activities may include
hiking, fishing, swimming, biking and camping. |
Crusoe
(Ages 12 – 16)
Crusoe campers should be prepared for a primitive week of
self-reliance miles away from camp. The experience begins
as each camper builds his or her own shelter and get familiar
with the area. The week continues as campers learn about cooking,
tracking, and survival techniques. Crusoe campers leave the
woods at the end of the week with a new appreciation of nature,
others, and most importantly themselves. |

National Trip Camps (Ages 14 – 18) Return Campers Only
On a 3-year rotating basis, we take older, advanced campers on 10-14 day trips across America. These journeys are a great opportunity to see the culture, history, and beauty the United States has to offer. These trips offer lifetime memories, as well as the opportunity to create lasting friendships. The three trips currently are “Rocky Mountain,” “Grand Canyon” and “Maine Adventure”. For 2005 we offer “Maine Adventure”, which will take campers on a 10-day trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. “Rocky Mountain” is tentative for 2006 and is a 14-day trip. |
Leadership Camp
(Ages 17 – 18) Return Campers Only
Leadership Camp provides older campers a chance
to give something back to Nuhop. While working with a veteran
Nuhop staff member they will have opportunities throughout
the week to ask questions and learn about leadership. By assisting
Counselors with their tribe for the week, Leadership campers
are able to share what they have learned with our younger
Nuhop campers. In order to take part in Leadership Camp, campers
must be recommended by past counselors and approved by the
Summer Camp Directors. |
Over 18 Camp (Ages 18+) Return Campers Only
Over 18 Camp is for return Nuhop Campers who still wish to experience the magic of Camp Nuhop. They will participate in traditional camp activities. |
